This is a complex, medicinal chypre fragrance defined by its resinous and animalic character. You will detect sharp pine and star anise in the opening, leading into a heart of dark leather and beeswax. It rests on a base of oud, amber, and castoreum, creating a vintage apothecary feel.

The opening is immediate and bracing, dominated by green pine and spicy juniper notes. As it settles, the star anise fades to reveal a deep leather and labdanum accord. The final dry-down remains on skin for hours, leaving behind a persistent, smoky amber and castoreum base that is quite earthy.

Longevity is polarizing among users, but on my skin, it lasts well over eight hours. Because of the heavy base notes like agarwood and castoreum, it clings to fabrics and skin with tenacity. If you find it fades quickly, it may be your skin chemistry fighting the resins.

At first spray, the sillage is quite strong due to the aromatic pine and star anise. After thirty minutes, it pulls back to a more moderate projection that sits within arm's length. It does not fill a room, but it leaves a detectable trail when you move through cooler air.

This is definitely a cold-weather scent. The warm amber and leather accords feel suffocating in high heat but shine in autumn and winter. The conifer notes cut through damp, chilly air perfectly, making it an excellent choice for outdoor activities during a crisp, late October afternoon.

I strongly advise against a blind buy. Acqua di Teriaca is a highly unconventional fragrance that leans into medicinal and animalic territory. If you are new to niche perfumery, get a sample first to see how the leather and oud interact with your skin before committing to a bottle.

It is officially unisex, though the heavy leather and oud base lean slightly masculine on many wearers. However, the Turkish rose in the heart adds just enough floral lift to keep it balanced. Regardless of gender, it is a fragrance for someone who enjoys wearing challenging, non-commercial scents.

Use caution in small, shared spaces. The medicinal pine and animalic castoreum can be intense for those not used to niche perfumery. One or two sprays are sufficient, but it might be safer to keep this as an evening or weekend wear fragrance rather than a daily office driver.

Layering is difficult because this scent is already dense and complex. If you must, try pairing it with a simple, high-quality vanilla or a clean musk to temper the sharper star anise and oud notes. However, it is crafted to stand on its own as a collector's piece.
