Al Maqam is centered on a strong oud and woody accord. The opening combines agarwood with floral notes, while the dry-down introduces creamy vanilla and sandalwood. It functions as a dense, resinous composition that feels more traditional and Middle Eastern in its construction than most western market offerings.

The opening is immediate, hitting with a sharp burst of agarwood softened by subtle floral notes. As it warms on your skin, the woody notes and amber take over, grounding the sharpness. After a few hours, the scent settles into a persistent base of sweet vanilla, musk, and dry sandalwood that stays close to the skin.

Longevity is a major highlight, with most users finding the oil lasts well over 10 hours. Because it is a concentrated perfume oil, it anchors itself into the skin's texture, resisting evaporation throughout the day even in temperate climates. You will likely still detect traces of the sandalwood and musk base the next morning.

Al Maqam is generally too potent for small, enclosed office spaces. Its massive projection and heavy oud profile can easily overwhelm coworkers. It is much better suited for evening social gatherings, outdoor events during autumn or winter, or moments where you want your presence to be clearly defined.

While marketed as unisex, the heavy oud and woody notes lean slightly masculine to many Western noses. It depends entirely on your personal comfort with animalic or medicinal oud characteristics.

You can absolutely layer Al Maqam, but use it sparingly as a base. Applying a small drop under a lighter, citrus-forward fragrance can provide a woody foundation, though it will quickly dominate. It works best with other amber or spicy scents if you want to increase depth and performance.

Al Maqam is not a safe blind buy. Oud can be polarizing, and this oil is quite concentrated. If you have not experienced traditional, resinous agarwood oils before, you should definitely sample this first to see how it interacts with your skin chemistry before committing to a bottle.

Since it is a 30 ml oil, apply only a tiny amount to your pulse points, such as wrists or behind the ears. The concentration is high, and a little goes a long way. Let the warmth of your skin distribute the scent naturally rather than rubbing it in, which can disrupt the development.
