After that opening, the scent settles into a woody aromatic heart where juniper and dry woods do much of the work. The cognac note is there, though it reads more as a smooth warmth than a loudly boozy effect. This middle phase is what gives Aramis Black its composed personality. It smells polished, a little stern, and more interested in texture than sweetness.

The base is where the fragrance becomes darker and more characterful. Leather and incense bring a smoky, slightly shadowed feel, while vetiver keeps the structure dry. Tonka softens the edges enough to stop it becoming too severe. Even then, this never turns creamy or gourmand. The warm balsamic and leathery parts have enough weight for autumn and winter, while the grapefruit and juniper stop it from becoming flat too early. In high heat, it may feel a little too dense for some tastes, especially if you prefer brighter or more transparent scents.

Performance looks fairly balanced rather than extreme. It tends to wear with moderate projection and moderate to long-lasting endurance, which suits the style. This is not a room-filling statement scent. It is better thought of as a close, confident fragrance that gives off a steady impression over several hours.

The strongest part of Aramis Black is its restraint. It gives you woods, leather, smoke and amber warmth without becoming syrupy, overly loud or rough around the edges. That makes it appealing to someone who wants a masculine fragrance with depth but not too much drama. If your taste leans toward fresh blue scents or sweet clubbing fragrances, this may feel too dry and serious. If you like polished darker fragrances that still behave well in daily wear, it is easy to understand the appeal.

For most buyers, this is the kind of scent worth sampling if the note pyramid already sounds right. It does not chase trends, but it offers a wearable balance of resin, woods, leather and soft smoky warmth. That gives it a clear lane, and for the right wearer, that lane is very attractive.
