On paper, the structure tells you almost everything you need to know: aromatic herbs and citrus up top, florals and green facets in the middle, then oakmoss, leather, woods, amber and musk underneath. In wear, that usually means a dry, composed fragrance with more backbone than softness.

The opening should appeal to anyone who likes lavender-led scents with a slightly barbershop edge. Clary sage and lavender give it an herbal, brisk start, while bergamot keeps it from feeling too dark too early. It is not a sparkling citrus fragrance, and it does not chase modern freshness. The opening reads cleaner and sharper than the base, but the transition into the heart already hints at the more traditional style to come.

As it develops, the floral and green elements soften the top without turning the fragrance plush or sweet. Fern, cyclamen, jasmine and carnation suggest a heart that is structured, slightly powdery, faintly spicy and very much of its era. The carnation note especially helps explain why this does not feel purely woody. There is a dry floral texture here that keeps the fragrance tailored rather than rough.

The base is where Borsalino likely earns most of its appeal for enthusiasts. Oakmoss, leather, cedar, vetiver and labdanum point to a darker, earthier, more grown-up finish, with amber and musk rounding things out. The result is likely to feel mossy, woody and aromatic first, with leather as a clear accent rather than an overwhelming force. If you want a syrupy amber or a soft modern suede, this is the wrong direction. If you want a firmer, greener and more traditional masculine base, it makes much more sense.

Performance looks respectable rather than exaggerated. Available wear data suggests moderate to long-lasting longevity is the most realistic expectation, with some stronger reports but not enough evidence to treat it as universally huge. Sillage also seems to land between moderate and strong for many wearers. That supports the character of the scent well, since this style usually works best when it is noticeable without becoming oppressive.

This is a fragrance for someone who enjoys classic dressing, mature aromatic structures and the drier side of perfumery. It will likely feel most natural in autumn and winter, with some room in spring when the herbal and floral parts get more air. Younger wearers can absolutely wear it, but they need to want that older-school posture. Borsalino is less about easy mass appeal and more about a specific taste: herbal top, mossy base, and a confident, traditional masculine profile.
