It is not built like a fresh crowd-pleaser. It looks designed for people who enjoy warmth, texture and a slightly offbeat twist.

The opening should feel sweet first, but not soft or fluffy. Star anise and coriander suggest a brisk, aromatic lift that cuts through the chocolate and keeps the first impression from turning syrupy. That matters, because a fragrance with chocolate, coffee and vanilla can easily become heavy if there is nothing to sharpen the edges. Here, the spice and anisic character look like the part that gives Capsule 1968 its identity.

As it develops, the heart is where the fragrance becomes more interesting.
