Ambergris, amyris, guaiac wood, Virginia cedar, opoponax, and Thailand oud suggest a rose that is less about softness and more about texture, depth, and atmosphere.

On paper, the rose should be the emotional centre of the fragrance, but this does not look like a fresh-cut or watery interpretation. The main impression is likely richer, woodier, and more resinous. The woody accord leads strongly, followed closely by rose and amber, with animalic and balsamic facets adding a darker edge. That balance matters because it changes the mood completely. Instead of a polished mainstream rose, Gothic Rose seems to aim for something shadowed, slightly rough around the edges, and deliberately dramatic.

The note list helps explain why. Three rose materials can create body and nuance, from jammy and velvety to spicy and full. Then the woods move in. Guaiac wood and cedar can give the scent a dry, smoky, pencil-shaving feel, while amyris often softens the transition so the composition does not become too harsh. It seems more likely to act as a dark frame for the roses than as the star of the show.

In wear, Gothic Rose may suit people who enjoy rose when it feels serious and slightly gothic in mood rather than luminous or romantic. It looks better aligned with evening use, cooler weather, and slower settings where dense, textured scents make sense. Autumn is the clearest fit from the available votes, and that tracks with the ambered woods and balsamic weight. In high heat or casual daytime settings, it may come across as too thick for some tastes.

Performance looks respectable.
