MEM

★★★★★★★★★★
3.95927 votesUNISEX

MEM is a dense, aromatic lavender built in a very niche style. It opens bright and herbal with citrus and multiple shades of lavender, then turns warmer, dirtier and more textured as animalic notes, resins, woods and a soft vanilla facet start to show. This is less about easy freshness and more about contrast. If you enjoy bold fougeres with a musky.

Open Performance Breakdown 1 TAKE

MEM usually comes across as strong in both longevity and projection. It tends to last very well on skin, often with a pronounced opening and a base that stays present for hours, so lighter application makes sense unless you want a very assertive scent bubble.

Notes Pyramid

Search these notes

MEM opens with a bright herbal-citrus lift around a dense core of lavender, then shifts into a warmer, more textured fougere. As it settles, floral touches, muted vanilla sweetness, woods, amber and animalic musk make it feel richer, dirtier and more complex than a classic clean aromatic.

The main accords do not sit separately for long. The musky, fresh spicy and aromatic facets lead early, then amber, woods and animalic tones rise underneath the lavender. That contrast gives MEM its identity, aromatic on the surface, but warmer, furrier and more resinous in actual wear.

Fragranxe Review

EDITORIAL
“Bogue MEM Review”

MEM by Bogue is an oriental fougere built around lavender, but that description only tells part of the story. This is not a crisp, tidy lavender fragrance in the everyday sense. It takes a familiar fougere idea and pushes it into richer, stranger territory with citrus, herbs, florals, resins, woods and a clearly animalic base.

The opening looks bright on paper and it does start that way to a point. Grapefruit, mandarin and petitgrain lift the top, while several shades of lavender give it an aromatic core that feels layered rather than flat. Mint and geranium add extra sharpness. Very quickly, though, MEM shows that it is not interested in staying fresh for long. The scent gains weight, texture and a slightly untamed feel as the composition opens up.

In the heart, the floral notes soften the structure without making it delicate. Ylang-ylang, champaca and rose round out the sharper aromatic edges, while vanilla and malt add a muted sweetness. That sweetness is not dessert-like. It feels more like a warm glow underneath the herbs and flowers, helping bridge the early lavender brightness to the heavier base. The effect can feel dynamic on skin, with different facets stepping forward at different times.

The dry-down is where MEM becomes most divisive and most interesting. Civet, castoreum, musk and ambergris push the fragrance into animalic territory, while labdanum, benzoin and amber deepen the warmth. Sandalwood, cedar and rosewood keep it grounded. On some skin this may come across as richly musky and textured. On others it may feel rough, medicinal or simply too forceful. That split response makes sense, because MEM is clearly not composed for broad appeal.

Performance is one of the easier parts to describe. MEM usually wears with strong presence and notable longevity. It can project more than expected, especially early on, and the base tends to hang on for hours. For that reason, it rewards restraint. A small number of sprays is often enough, particularly indoors or in mild weather.

As a wear, MEM makes the most sense for someone who likes niche perfumery that still has recognizable structure. You can trace the fougere shape, but it is wrapped in animalic warmth, musky density and resinous depth. It feels more suited to sampling, thoughtful wear and personal taste than to blind buying or daily crowd-pleasing use. If you want a lavender fragrance with softness and polish, this may be too much. If you want lavender made darker, more textured and more unconventional, MEM has a very clear point of view.

FAQs

What does MEM by Bogue smell like?+

MEM smells like an aromatic lavender fougere with a lot more depth and roughness than a classic barbershop scent. The opening is citrusy and herbal, then it grows warmer, muskier, woodier and more animalic as it dries down.

Is MEM mostly a lavender fragrance?+

Lavender is central, especially early on, but it is not a simple lavender soliflore. The lavender is surrounded by citrus, minty and floral nuances up top, then supported by amber, woods, resin and animalic notes underneath.

Does MEM lean fresh or warm?+

It starts on the fresher side with lavender, grapefruit, mandarin and petitgrain, but it usually reads warmer and heavier in the dry-down. Amber, labdanum, benzoin, woods and animalic notes give it a richer finish.

Is MEM unisex?+

Yes. MEM is marketed for women and men, and it reads firmly unisex overall. Some wearers may find its aromatic fougere structure slightly more masculine-leaning, but it is not locked into one side.

How strong is MEM by Bogue?+

MEM is generally known for strong presence. It often projects noticeably and can last a long time on skin, so it is better approached with a light hand than heavy spraying.

How long does MEM last?+

MEM is usually considered long-lasting to very long-lasting. On many wearers it stays present for most of the day and can cling to clothing even longer.

Is MEM a safe blind buy?+

No, this is better treated as a sample-first fragrance. Its animalic, musky and resinous facets can be striking and appealing to niche fans, but they may feel too challenging for someone expecting a clean lavender scent.

When should you wear MEM?+

MEM suits cooler weather especially well, and it can work in spring too thanks to the aromatic lavender opening. It fits situations where you want a distinctive, artistic scent rather than an easy office default.

Can MEM work in warm weather?+

It can, but you need restraint. The aromatic top can feel lively in spring, yet the heavier ambered and animalic base may feel dense in strong heat.

Is MEM sweet?+

Not in a gourmand way. There is some sweetness from vanilla, malt, amber and benzoin, but the fragrance is led more by lavender, musk, spice, woods and animalic texture than by sugar.

COMMUNITY DUPESCORE

It is better not to make hard dupe claims here. MEM appears to sit closer to the broader world of bold, old-school-leaning fougeres and animalic niche perfumery than to any obvious one-to-one clone. If you are interested in it, sample alongside other lavender-led niche fougeres rather than expecting an exact substitute.
