Papillon opens with a tart, zesty splash of Sicilian lemon, juicy sweet orange, and bergamot rind. The initial burst is brisk, refreshing, and slightly sharp rather than sugary sweet. Within fifteen minutes, this bright citrus peel freshness begins to soften, paving the way for watery melon and pink grapefruit in the heart.

After the sharp citrus opening settles, Papillon introduces crisp pink grapefruit, watery melon, and ripe peach balanced by tangy black currant. As the wear progresses into the second hour, the fruity tones give way to creamy magnolia petals, white lily, and cedar, finally resting on a bed of powdery violet root and clean white musk.

On bare skin, Papillon typically lasts between 5 and 6 hours before fading into a subtle personal skin scent. Sprayed onto fabrics such as cotton shirts or wool scarves, the cedarwood and white musk base notes hold on significantly longer, frequently delivering 8 to 10 hours of clean, lingering freshness.

During the first 90 minutes of wear, Papillon projects with moderate intensity, creating an airy scent bubble that radiates roughly an arm length (about 2 to 3 feet). Its creamy magnolia and juicy peach notes tilt it slightly feminine, but its crisp cleanliness has broad unisex appeal.

Both fragrances share a bright, tart opening with fruity and floral facets from the same golden era of Italian perfumery. However, Amuletti leans somewhat greener and more intensely powdery, whereas Papillon highlights juicy melon, pink grapefruit, and creamy magnolia with a smoother, satin-like cedar and musk base.

Papillon is formulated as an eau de toilette (EDT). When originally released in 2004, it offered tremendous value as an affordable Italian designer fragrance. Today, because it has been discontinued, secondary market bottles can carry collector markups, but it remains a great buy if acquired under premium niche prices.

Papillon layers beautifully with clean white musk single-note oils, aquatic marine scents, or simple woody cedar bases.
