Very quickly, it starts to feel less like a plush amber floral and more like a clean, classic fougere seen through Zara's modern lens.

The heart is where the fragrance becomes more distinctive. Lavender stays central, but it is not a silky spa-lavender or a sugary aromatic. Here it feels sharper, greener and more formal, supported by nutmeg, lily-of-the-valley and labdanum. Patchouli is a major part of the character too, and several wearers seem to pick up that clean patchouli thread more than anything else. The result can smell elegant and composed, but it can also come across as soapy, detergent-like, or even slightly medicinal depending on your skin and your tolerance for this style.

That divide is important if you are trying to decide on a sample. Some people clearly enjoy the cleanliness, describing it as inoffensive, refined and long-lasting. In wear, Petale d'Ambre seems strongest as a daytime fragrance. It has enough presence to be noticed, especially in the first few hours, but it does not sound chaotic or overly sweet. Projection appears solid without becoming overwhelming for most people. Petale d'Ambre is at its best for someone who wants clean sharpness, lavender structure and patchouli texture more than sweetness or softness.
