Printemps (Springtime) by Ajne is a small, simple pyramid on paper, gardenia on top, linden blossom in the heart, then woody notes and driftwood in the base. In wear, it comes across less like a pastel spring bouquet and more like a gardenia with shadow. If you collect gardenia fragrances because you like their creamy, velvety presence, Printemps aims in that direction, not the bright, soapy, “freshly pressed” style.

The first minutes are where the split opinions make sense. Some skins read it as a bold white floral quickly, with gardenia turning dark and rich. Others get something much more challenging, a minty, medicinal, herbal impression that feels dry, woody, and even bitter. That opening is exactly why this is not a safe blind buy, even if the note list looks straightforward. If your nose reacts badly to menthol-like or medicinal facets, test on skin, not only on a blotter.

Once it settles, the gardenia is the centre of gravity. It is not described by wearers as “twirling in the sunshine”, it is framed as deeper and more adult, with a slightly naughty edge. Linden blossom can add a softer floral layer that can feel gently honeyed to some people, and one wearer even describes a honeyed floral impression. Whether you interpret that as honey, pollen, or warm floral sweetness, the overall effect stays more woody floral than sugary.

The base is where the Ajne character shows most clearly. Driftwood and woody notes give the scent a dry, textured backbone, almost as if the flower is pinned to sun-warmed wood near the sea. That also explains why the main accord profile can read woody first, with white and yellow florals supporting it, and why a subtle marine feel may show up in the background rather than a loud aquatic blast.

Performance is best treated as moderate and variable. Longevity is commonly rated in the middle, and sillage reports range from intimate to stronger, which often points to differences in application, skin, and expectations. If you like to wear gardenia close, this can be a pleasant, personal scent. If you want consistent, room-filling projection, you may need to overspray, which can also amplify the more medicinal facets if you are sensitive.

If your taste runs toward richer white florals with wood, Printemps is worth a sample. If you want a clean, bright spring floral, or you dislike herbal bitterness, you will likely be happier elsewhere. The upside is that when it works, it reads like a gardenia with attitude rather than a polite floral.
