Samar is one of those fragrances where the opening will decide everything. On paper, the structure sounds inviting: raspberry, clove, bergamot and pink pepper up top, then cinnamon, white florals and osmanthus over oud, vanilla, labdanum and patchouli. On skin, though, the first impression can split opinion sharply. Some wearers get a dark, jammy spicy oud with warmth and depth right away. Others get something skankier, smokier and harder to love in the first minutes.

That contrast is the key to understanding Samar. At its best, it feels rich, textured and a little dramatic, with clove and cinnamon pushing the fragrance into a warm spicy register while raspberry adds a dark fruity accent rather than bright sweetness. There is also a smoky resinous thread that helps the scent feel denser and more atmospheric. One reviewer described it as strong, dark, jammy and alluring, with a powdery finish that feels both comforting and sexy. That reads as a fair summary of Samar when the composition clicks.

The floral heart keeps the perfume from becoming too heavy. If you like smooth vanilla oud scents from the first spray, this may test your patience. If you enjoy a fragrance that opens rougher, then settles into something warm, spicy and memorable, Samar has real character.
