On paper the note list is crowded, with citrus, magnolia, lily-of-the-valley, cardamom, pepper, orange blossom, tuberose, ylang-ylang, rose, jasmine, moss, amber, peach, osmanthus, raspberry, plum, caramel, vanilla, coconut and clove. In wear, reviewers tend to describe something more readable: green florals, juicy fruit, soft powder, sweetness, moss and spice.

The opening is bright and pretty rather than sharp in a minimalist way. Tangerine, orange and grapefruit give lift, while magnolia quickly becomes a key player. Several wearers pick up a soft, creamy, waxy magnolia effect, sometimes with violet-like or soapy floral edges. The green notes and lily-of-the-valley can make the perfume feel clean, almost shampoo-like on some skin.

As it develops, Vepres Siciliennes grows denser. Peach, rose, white flowers and heliotrope add a plush floral fruitiness, while amber, caramel, vanilla and coconut bring warmth and sweetness. The sweeter dry-down is one of the main dividing points. Some find it elegant, welcoming and beautifully blended. Others experience it as too sweet, too sour, sticky or headache inducing.

It is less convincing as a blind buy, because the same sweetness, green floral shampoo effect and potpourri nuance that charm some wearers can turn others away quickly.
