In wear, though, the star anise gives it a more angular personality than the usual clean marine scent. The opening comes across salty, breezy and aromatic, with a noticeable anisic edge that some wearers find intriguing and others find hard to get past.

That first stage matters because it shapes the whole experience. If you enjoy sharper aquatics with a herbal, slightly retro twist, Robinson Bear can feel distinctive and stylish. If you are sensitive to anise or to the watery melon side of calone, it may feel challenging before it settles. More than one review suggests testing before buying, and that feels like sensible advice here.

Once the top starts to calm down, the fragrance usually becomes easier to wear. Juniper and cedar give it a drier, cleaner frame, while patchouli adds a faint earthy depth without turning it heavy. Labdanum and oakmoss in the base help move it away from a bright sea-spray effect into something greener, slightly resinous and more grounded on skin. That transition is part of its appeal. The overall style sits closer to a natural-leaning marine fragrance than a sweet modern blue scent. Some reviewers place it near Acqua di Sale, Sel Marin or Blasted Heath, which makes sense. It usually reads more mineral, aromatic and woody than crowd-pleasing.
