Andy Tauer opened this 2013 creation with a flash of bitter almond and sun-dried apricot, dustings of cinnamon, and crisp bergamot. At its center rests rare Afghan rose oil from Nangarhar, stripped of sugary syrup and surrounded by dry tobacco leaf and green geranium. The base settles into warm ambergris, patchouli, vetiver, and tonka bean. The result smells dense and slightly chalky rather than soft or garden-fresh. As the top notes fade over the first hour, the composition reveals a woody, resinous backbone with a pinch of dark vanilla. It projects noticeable heat in chilly air, making it an excellent option for cool November nights and sharp winter mornings. Anyone tired of standard rose-oud pairings will find an entirely different, grounded perspective here.
