Chouette Vierge No. 1 is an unapologetic, heavy-hitting winter fragrance. The first spray leaves a visible oil sheen on skin, releasing a pungent kick of bitter orange peel and fiery cinnamon stick. Within ten minutes, that brisk citrus flash burns off. Dense unburned pipe tobacco and dark, bittersweet cacao quickly take over the mid-range. Dry gurjan balsam and a clean, resinous oud give the heart a deep wooden chest quality rather than anything barnyard or medicinal. As the hours stretch, the base settles into buttery bourbon vanilla, worn jacket leather, and earthy patchouli.
