January Scent Project Serin opens with a striking blast of bitter marigold and bright citruses before quickly settling into a deep, dark haze of real woodsmoke. Perfumer John Biebel avoids typical sweet amber patterns here, opting instead to contrast the sharp, herbal bite of tagetes and cool mint against a heavy, resinous base of opopanax and cypriol oil. It is a dry, challenging fragrance that feels like cold autumn air mixed with the smell of a damp fireplace. While the initial metallic tang might shock beginners, the cozy sandalwood and clean musk dry-down makes it incredibly wearable for cool rainy days.
